Surprisingly useful for its size and weight.
In my everyday life and in my work as a private security officer, I always like to be as ready as I can, not only for when something wrong happens but also for little situations that require my attention to fix and/or deal with it. I’m also a big believer in working smarter not harder, that’s way amongst other things, I always carry at least one Knife, a Flashlight and a Multitool.
In my search for a compact and lightweight Multitool for my EDC Kit I came across the Gerber Vise. At first glance it seemed like the perfect tool for what I wanted…but we all know there’s not such a thing like a perfect tool.
Now, don’t get me wrong, the Gerber Vise is without a doubt surprisingly useful for its size and weight, but the size and weight can also be a problem when you have a harder task at hand and you are left wondering if the Vise is sturdy enough for the job, although for simple everyday tasks it works just fine.
Despite being tiny, it’s does feel solid when using it for simple every tasks and if you don’t try to use it on heavy duty tasks you’ll be just fine, my major gripe with the Gerber Vise is that the tools are super stiff to open when you first get it, I fixed that by applying some WD-40 oil on the connections, but I shouldn’t have to do that on a brand new Multitool.
Overall, I’m happy with the Gerber Vise, for the price (around 20€ to 25€) it does the job, also, when closed it measures just 61mm (2.40″) and weights .57 grams (2.00oz), so it’s something you can throw on your pocket or backpack and forget about it, untill you need it.
